Slacking off in SE Asia

We're nearly at the end of this big trek now. And yes, we have been pretty slack with the blogging recently. So here's a bit of a summary of our last month, in reverse order.

CAMERON HIGHLANDS
Right now we're in the Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. It's a mixture of tea plantations and rainforest, and it's a fair bit cooler than the rest of this area of the world. Not surprisingly, we have been walking in the forest and drinking tea! From here we are heading to Taman Negara National Park, then KL, then to our last stop at Uncle Lindsay's place in Singapore.

HELLO TO ETHAN HOLLAND CLIFT
We have a new nephew! Ethan - born to Daryl's sister, Sarah, on 16th. We are looking forward to meeting him really soon.

PHUKET
We had to check out a beach in Thailand and Phuket seemed pretty easy to get to and from, so that was it. We had a great time swimming and snorkelling at the beach - I couldn't even remember the last time we'd been to a hot beach! No time to hang around working on our tans (although most people were working on burning), we had to keep moving south.

BANGKOK
I loved Thai Cooking School - spent two days learning some tasty recipes. Meanwhile, Daryl wandered around the city, checking out some other sights.

SIEM REAP
We went there for the temples at Angkor and we were not disappointed. The first day we were driven around in a tuk-tuk - excellent! The second and third days we hired bikes and rode ourselves around the closer temples, including my favourite Bayon (with all the faces) and Daryl's favourite (that I can't remember the name of now, but was great for exploring) - even more excellent! Best bike ride ever.

PHNOM PENH
Cambodia was great. We learnt about the horrible things that happened there in the 70s and visited some memorable sights. A really interesting place to visit and I'd definitely recommend it. Ate some tasty food too.

HO CHI MINH CITY (SAIGON)
The first hot place we got to. From here on it was sandals, shorts and t-shirts. I don't handle hot weather well, but we still mananged to get out and see the city. Daryl went to check out some of the tunnels to the north of the city too (I stayed in our air-conditioned room and read a book about Cambodia!).

HANOI
Motorbikes rule Vietnam. It's funny and annoying at the same time. It's hard work to walk around the place, but I think we got better at it after a bit. While in Hanoi we managed to fit in a water puppet show and also a trip out to Halong Bay, a beautful area off the north coast of Vietnam.

Well, that's a quick run down. I'm sure there are heaps of great things that I haven't included here, but we've got to go pick up our laundry now.

See you all soon (in Melbourne - sorry if you're somewhere else).

Comments:
Finally - it's a amazing what a short email nudge can get!

See you soon!
