Czech-ing out Prague

We spent 3 days in Prague (1.5 with our Czech friend, Janusz, which was very handy!). Here are some highlights:

FOOD
- Janusz took us to a real Czech restaurant (it was packed on a Monday lunchtime) where I had beef with dumplings, and the boys shared a pig's knee
- Daryl and I loved the restaurant so much we went back the next day and had chicken with peaches and whipped cream and garlic soup and salad
- street food was very tasty (and very unhealthy!), including big hot dogs, fried cheese in a burger and greasy potato pancakes

CULTURE
- went to Prague Castle and explored a few buildings there (I like St George Basilica the best - a really nice little church)
- Mucha Museum, full of beautiful Art Nouveau posters
- Charles Bridge, chock-full of tourists, but with some nice statues along the edges
- different old parts of town (including a bit of walking around in circles)
- went to see the second Elizabeth movie with Czech subtitles (wasn't so helpful for the bits where they spoke Spanish)
- shoe shopping at the 7-floor Bata shoe store (to replace my favourite shoes that I put a hole in during a Greek thunderstorm)

WEATHER
- snow
- snow
- cold and icy

Well, that's about it for Prague. From there we caught another sleeper train (we do love combined transport and accommodation!) to Krakow, so stay tuned for more about there. I think Daryl will write that one, so I'll just say now that Polish food is pretty tasty and I'm getting some good ideas for what to cook everyone when I get back to Melbourne.

Comments:
All that is missing is the music and the brothers singing...."Travel all over the country side ask the Leyland brothers...."
It's fun to watch.

Let me know what you think of Krakow. I'm going there for New Year!
