The paper is titled "Sinking velocities of phytoplankton measured on a stable density gradient by laser scanning". For those who don't want to read the article, here is a quick summary from Daryl - It's quite difficult to measure how fast very small particles sink through water, because, well, they are very small and they sink very slowly. We have come up with a method that uses a laser pointer to locate where in the water these small particles are. This method is both very accurate and really cool.
